The last few months have been filled with moving, getting settled and wedding planning. Today I spend the day doing none of those things. Instead I created a watercolor from my rooftop deck. After 6 months of transition, I finally feel home.

Limbo

We are in a state of limbo right now. Not really staying, not really going. It has been making me very observant of the house lately. Today the sun was strong, bathing our back room in light. This makes the cats happy.

I’ve been gazing at the views out of my windows. I’ve been noticing the architecture and placement of the garden that we put in couple months back and the arrangement of our bikes as they lean against my studio.

While doing dishes I’ll zone out on the way the sun casts a beautiful shadow across the eastern side of my neighbors home and the fluttering of the torn screen from their second floor back patio. I wonder constantly about the fate of the house across the street, the one that caught on fire last March and is still left standing in it’s noble skeleton.

It’s imagery I’ve been soaking in for a while and have been mostly unsure what to do with. I think this state of limbo has helped to provide some important separation.

Hospice Savannah

Happy November! This month my show “Open Windows and Doors” will hang in the Hospice Savannah Art Gallery. The show will be on view starting November 2, 2010 to January 2, 2011. A percentage of the sales will benefit Hospice Savannah.

Craftsman Bungalow

This painting “Craftsman Bungalow” is now waiting to be on view at The Art House in Atlanta, GA. The imagery is a north to south view starting from our guest room. In true craftsman style, the bedrooms and bathrooms line-up along the west side of the house. We have amazing light that pours in from the windows along the west wall mid-afternoon. I am enjoying the angles created by the series of doors and the beams of light across the floor.

I have a “sister” piece that is still in progress in the studio and should be ready soon. This vantage point is looking south to north. The light source is 7am – 8am sunlight, which makes the color of the walls incredibly purple.

Scrolls and Roses

I’ve been working on these paintings for over a year and they are finally complete. Both paintings utilize cast ironwork patterns found in Savannah. The patterns have been layered multiple times in sap green, chromium green, burnt sienna and alizarin crimson.

These are definitely “Savannah” paintings to me. They exhibit a lot of the colors, mystery, and overall feeling I experience here – in addition to the intentional architectural reference.

Driftwood

We went camping a couple weeks ago in South Carolina. A little further up the coast from our campsite were the most amazing driftwood formations. Huge! with really interesting negative spaces in the roots. It got me thinking about how these patterns would work in conjunction with the ironwork prints, either in layers or side by side.
